Arts Project Assistant

Seki Shikyo Art Office is a Kyoto-based organization that plans and manages art-related projects throughout Japan, including art exhibitions, concerts, and film screenings.

In particular, we provide support for the activities of foreign artists living in Japan.
In the visual arts field, we organize solo and group exhibitions at public art museums and museums.
In the music field, we plan recitals and performances at concert halls.
In the film field, we organize screening events for artistic works.

In addition, we are also expanding into publishing and art sales, aiming to bring artists’ creative activities to society from multiple perspectives.

Due to the expansion of our business, we are currently recruiting a Project Assistant.

We welcome applicants who are interested in art and culture and who wish to work in the arts field in the future.

Job Description

The following tasks will be assigned according to your skills and suitability.
You will not be expected to handle all of them:

• Administrative support related to art exhibitions and art projects
  (venue research, preparation of exhibition materials, grant applications, coordination and communication, etc.)

• Activity management and manager support for artists affiliated with our office

• Support for the release of foreign films in Japan
  (Eirin classification and screening permit applications, venue coordination, Chinese subtitle translation and proofreading, etc.)

• Editing, proofreading, and management of publications

• General office support
  (assisting with SNS operation, website updates, visitor reception, document filing, etc.)

• Assistance with music-related events
  (overseas lectures, performances in Japan, etc.)

• Support for operating our online shop
  (photographing, editing, listing, and shipping artworks and related merchandise such as T-shirts, badges, plush toys, etc.)

You will not be required to handle every area. Duties will be flexibly adjusted according to your experience and preferences.

Compensation

• From JPY 1,200 per hour (tax included)
  (compensation will be calculated based on actual results/work performed)

• The initial contract period will be 2 months, with possible renewal upon mutual agreement

• ​

Working Schedule

• No fixed requirement to come in on specific days; in principle, work will be around 2–3 days per week

• In many cases, work will take place in the afternoon

• Working hours and tasks will be arranged flexibly through mutual consultation

Requirements

• Native-level Japanese proficiency
  (able to handle office tasks and draft documents in Japanese)

• Basic computer skills
  (Google Drive, Word, Excel, etc.)

• Basic skills in Illustrator / Photoshop

• You may bring your own computer or camera equipment; borrowing equipment can be discussed in advance if necessary

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

• Experience in publishing, film, music, exhibitions, or related fields

• Daily conversational ability in English or Chinese

• Careful, detail-oriented, and able to work well in a team

Insurance

• As this is a business outsourcing contract, employment insurance and social insurance do not apply

• Workers’ accident compensation insurance also does not apply; applicants are expected to manage their own health and safety

• Applicants without prior experience are welcome
  (careful guidance will be provided)

• University students and homemakers are also welcome
