03 / HOW WE HELP

How we help

To work in Japan as an independent artist over the long term, you first need a clear view of where you stand, and then a clear plan: what you will do in Japan, how you will make a living, and where you are heading.

SEKI SHIKYO ART LAB reviews your work and track record from a curator’s point of view and builds a complete career plan for you. The procedures needed to live and work in Japan are handled by the professionals we work with, or by professionals you choose yourself.

04 / READINESS REVIEW

Required: Artist Readiness Review

C1

Artist Readiness Review

We review four areas: the artistic value of your work, its market value, the value of your track record, and how feasible your plans are. You receive a result (suitable / needs strengthening / not suitable at present), the reasons, and overall recommendations for your career plan.

C1   Artist Readiness Review

incl. tax  JPY 99,000

excl. tax JPY 90,000

Every service starts with the C1 Readiness Review. Its results form the basis for all the reports that follow.

05 / OPTIONAL SERVICES

Realistic income sources (sales, commissions, teaching, workshops, licensing and more), monthly income targets, and how to reach each one. Includes a monthly income target table.

Scope of our services

SEKI SHIKYO ART LAB provides art career planning and consulting on art activities. We are not an administrative scrivener’s office. All reports are consulting deliverables for clients to plan their art activities; they are not application documents for submission to any government authority. Status of residence, tax, social insurance, legal and intellectual property matters are handled by outside professionals. We do not collect fees on behalf of any professional, we do not promise any review or permit outcome, and our fees do not change according to the result of any review.

09 / FAQ

FAQ

+  Can you handle my status of residence?

Assessments and applications for status of residence are handled in accordance with the law by the administrative scriveners we work with, and you sign directly with them. We take care of the artistic review and your career plan. You may also hire an administrative scrivener you already know.

+  Can I use this service without any status of residence procedure?

Yes. Anyone who wants to develop as an independent artist in Japan can use it.

+  What if the result is “not suitable at present”?

We tell you honestly at the free assessment stage, before you sign up. If you clearly do not meet the conditions yet, we will not recommend signing up.

+  Do I need a meeting?

All reports are prepared from the materials and written questionnaire you send, so no meeting is needed. If you would like to talk in person, you can book a 1-on-1 Consultation separately.

+  Can the reports be changed after delivery?

The reports are our professional conclusions and are delivered as one set. If an error caused by a misreading of your materials is found within 14 days of delivery, we correct it free of charge.

+  What comes after the plan?

You can start real art activities in Japan following your plan. We also offer gallery exhibitions, museum exhibitions and publishing. Once you have your status of residence, you may also consider the A, B or C annual programme.

+  I have already worked in Japan for a few years. Is this service right for me?

Yes. We review your activity and income in Japan, find where the problems are and set out the next direction. If you need long-term support to put the plan into action, you can also consider the A, B or C annual programme.
